The Eagle County Conservation District is a stand alone special district and relied on non-renewable grants to support its many programs. In order to sustain future funding, the Conservation District pursued a mill levy this past November with 68% in favor for.
Eagle County Conservation District Election:
- ECCD conducted a mail ballot election in November, 2024.
- ECCD will levy a tax of 0.15 mills on the assessed value of all real property within the Eagle County Conservation District's boundaries.
- Average cost for a home valued at $1 million will be $10 annually
- A .15 mill levy will provide roughly $645,000 annually for the Conservation District
How the money will be used:
- Ensure adequate water supplies and maintain health of rivers & streams
- Work with local landowners, water rights holders and ranchers to support more efficient water use
- Restore and protect forest and grassland health to reduce risk of wildfires
- Conserve native birds, fish and wildlife populations
- Restore habitat for pollinators
- Consult and advise local landowners on conservation planning and practices
- Advocate on behalf of land stewards
- Expand Beyond Lawn program
- Maintain/continue all other existing programs
